JUST ONE
These economic times have left their mark on not only the members of AOTA, but on the organization itself. At this time, our professional association is facing significant cut backs, just like other companies and organizations.  The leaders of AOTA (RALT) have been working diligently to determine the best way to close the near $450,000 budget gap. One practical way to cut nearly 30% of that discrepancy was to eliminate the Representative Assembly’s Annual meeting. This annual meeting is where the RA’s from 50 states and various other elected and appointed members meet to do all of the annual business for AOTA. Legal issues, budgeting plans, professional advancement, general governance and much more are squeezed into this 4 day marathon meeting. It was planned to be held the days before this year’s conference in Houston. 
As your Representative for RI, I want to assure you that the Assembly will continue to address all of your issues, as well as the general business of the association regardless of this disappointing set back. In addition to the face to face meeting of past years, we, as an assembly, have an incredibly effective Online Meeting annually. The RA will switch our ‘in person’ meeting to a second, more detailed online format. I will continue to plan an informational meeting for the week before the conference, during which I will present pressing agenda items for your discussion and input.
One additional point that AOTA is hoping to press home to its community is the need for increased membership. The Centennial Vision set us on a mission to increase the marketability of OT as a profession in order to allow more consumers to access our services. In order to meet these objectives, membership/money is needed. If every AOTA member were to encourage JUST ONE new member to AOTA we would have 80,000 new members. IMAGINE the impact an organization of that size would have on politics, healthcare and quality of life for all ages!!
Please join me in my attempt to sign up ONE new AOTA member. JUST ONE.  If you are not a member and would like to support your profession, www.aota.org will get you on target. I have paper versions of membership forms as well. I will be bringing membership information to all RIOTA meetings until the April conference, in order to make it easier for us all to find JUST ONE new member.
